WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Joe Crews has opened a consulting firm,
JIT Solutions Group – the first in the Triad – aimed at showing small and
medium-sized businesses become more organized and profitable by showing them how
to manage their inventory of spare parts and finished product.
“Many businesses continue to buy incorrect quantities of
inventory, some of which is product they may never use,” Crews says. “Most companies have some sort of
excess inventory and have no idea how to get rid of it.”
But money is tied up in that unused inventory and Crews can often
find other companies that can turn the unused inventory into cash. “Once a
company realizes how much money can be saved, and how much time can be saved by
not having to search for an item in a disorganized storeroom, they’ll realize
the benefit” of hiring Crews and his firm, JIT Solutions Group.
Excess inventory is eating up valuable space, and usually is
subject to taxation. “If you can get it off the books and get cash back, that
is all to the better,” he said
He said some business advisers might suggest throwing away
unused inventory or product. “I don’t do that. The chances are that there are
dollars to be gained for this product and I have the resources” to find the
other company to buy the excess inventory. “It will be useful to somebody.”
Other advisers often suggest returning excess inventory to
the manufacturer, but the business owner might then be faced with paying a
restocking fee.
Crews said, “My goal for companies without an inventory
manager is to properly train some if not all of their staff on proper inventory
management procedures. For companies
with someone in the role of inventory manager, I want to elevate their skills.”
But he is there just temporarily. “I am there to work the project and then
leave them with all of the tools and knowledge to do the job themselves.”
But he points out that he is just a phone call away if
something unexpected happens.
While JIT Solutions Group is a new firm, Crews has more than
20 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, procurement and inventory
management.
“We use this experience to develop customized inventory
management solutions for companies of all sizes,” he said. ‘These solutions are
not only extremely affordable but also financially rewarding to the business
owner.”
